Western Connecticut State University seeks to increase access, improve retention, and support academic success for Latino/Hispanic first generation students from low-income backgrounds. The university has identified a student cohort learning community at the center of four communities acting as partners in the education of the targeted population: Academic Success Community, Regional Education Community, Local Danbury Community, Student Life Community. This student-focused approach to broad-based community transformation will redefine relationships and support structures on campus and in the surrounding region. Fostering approaches that support the whole student will improve paths to achievement and have a positive impact on all shared communities.
