The Bangor Daily News reports that Lawrence Barrett, formerly Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Management and Student Services at Indiana's Purdue University North Central, has been named president of Eastern Maine Community College.
Governor Patrick Signs Legislation Naming Six MA State Colleges as Universities

"BOSTON - Wednesday, July 28, 2010 - Building on the Patrick-Murray Administration's commitment to excellence at Massachusetts public institutions of higher learning, Governor Patrick today signed a bill granting a name change to six of the state's nine state colleges who will henceforth be known as state universities. The Governor marked the occasion at a State House ceremony attended by hundreds of students, faculty and campus leaders."

NERCHE Visiting Scholar co-authors survey of COPC-funded institutions

Armand Carriere, 2010-2011 NERCHE Visiting Scholar, along with Margaret Brabant and Donald Braid from Butler University, have co-authored a survey that is part of the pilot phase of a research project examining the impact of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Outreach Partnership Centers (COPC) program upon universities and colleges.  The project will also attempt to document the impact of COPC activities in the community.

Multicultural Affairs Think Tank Member Named Chief Diversity Officer at Virginia Tech William Lewis, currently the Director for the Office of Institutional Diversity at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater MA has been named the Chief Diversity Officer at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg VA.  Dr. Lewis is a member of NERCHE's Multicultural Affairs Think Tank and Chair of Bridgewater State's Community of Practice for Project Compass,  another NERCHE initiative. 
*2010 Lynton Award Recipient Selected*

NERCHE is pleased to announce the 2010 recipient of the Ernest A. Lynton Award for the Scholarship of Engagement for Early Career Faculty: N. Eugene Walls, Assistant Professor of Social Work at the University of Denver. The 2010 Citation for Distinguished Engaged Scholarship for Early Career Faculty went to John Begeny, Assistant Professor of  Psychology at North Carolina State University. We will post more information about the recipients and their community-engaged work on our website very soon.

Multicultural Affairs Think Tank Member Melvin Wade Honored by Urban League

Melvin Wade, director of the Multicultural Center at the University of Rhode Island and long-time leader of NERCHE's Multicultural Affairs Think Tank, was awarded the President’s Recognition of Excellence Award during the Urban League of Rhode Island’s annual celebration Thursday, June 24 at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick.  For more information, click here.
