Zelda R. Gamson Fellowship

Upon her retirement from UMass Boston in 1999, the UMass Higher Education Administration Doctoral Program established a fellowship in honor oGamson f Professor Zelda F. Gamson. The Fellowship was established to recognize outstanding students in the program who demonstrate potential for contributing to the higher education community both as scholars and as practitioners. The purpose of the fellowship is to provide dissertation support for advanced-level students.

For 2009, the Gamson Fellowship will support two awards of $750 each.

Eligibility and Guidelines for Application

All Higher Education Administration doctoral students whose dissertation proposals have been approved by their dissertation committees (completed stage three in the dissertation process) are eligible. To apply, submit the following:

  1. a cover letter indicating that you are applying for the Gamson Fellowship (limited to 200 words)
  2. a narrative describing your dissertation project, with an emphasis on how you would use the funding to support your work (limited to 1500 words)
  3. an abstract of your proposal (limited to 50 words)
  4. a timeline of your dissertation work


Review Procedures

Applications will be reviewed by a faculty committee. The committee will use the following criteria:

  1. clarity of the project's goals, methods, and budget
  2. potential of the project to make a significant contribution to the field of higher education


Timeline

Applications are due no later than Monday, April 6, 2009. Awards will be announced in June.
