In the next two decades, powerful
forces will radically alter the American workplace: the demand for
college-educated workers will grow, the Baby Boomers will retire,
and 80% of the new students by 2015 will be Hispanic,
African American, and Asian. If our nation’s colleges and universities
are to meet the requirements of the new economy for skilled workers,
it will have to shift some of its focus and resources to students
of color.
For the last five years, The Futures Project has been studying how
colleges and universities improve access for students of color and,
more importantly, how some ensure that those students succeed. Based
on our research, we believe that states can better prepare all of
their citizens to join the workforce. To learn more, please download
our Policy Brief and view the Access and
Attainment questions you
can ask academic leaders and policymakers.
